Message Credits & AI Models

How message credits work, what each AI model costs, and how to choose the right model for your chatbot.

A message credit pays for one AI reply. How many credits a reply uses depends on which AI model your chatbot uses. Your plan includes a set number of credits — one time on Free Full Access, every billing month on paid plans.

How Credits Work

When a visitor asks your chatbot a question, the chatbot writes a reply. That reply uses credits based on two things:

  1. The model your chatbot uses — with the standard AI (GPT-5.4 Nano), one reply uses 1 credit. Advanced models use 3–15 credits per reply (see the table below).
  2. Whether the reply also does something — when a reply also submits a lead form, hands over to your team or runs a Custom AI Action, the AI does one more step. That reply uses 2× the model's credits: 2 credits with the standard AI.

The credits shown are the total for that reply, not extra credits on top. For example, with a model that uses 3 credits per reply, a reply that also submits a lead form uses 6 credits in total.

Some messages use no credits: the greeting message, your own replies in Live Chat, and messages that Banned Words blocks.

AI Models and Credit Costs

AI Bot Kit offers eight AI models. Most use just 1 credit per reply. Premium models are more capable but use more credits per reply.

Model Credits per Reply Best For
GPT-5.4 Nano 1 Everyday support and FAQ bots — fast and affordable
GPT-5.6 Luna 1 Everyday support and FAQ bots — fast and affordable
GPT-5.4 Mini 3 Bots that need a bit more depth in their answers
GPT-5.2 7 Detailed, nuanced conversations
GPT-5.6 Terra 10 Complex reasoning and longer answers
GPT-5.4 10 Complex reasoning and longer answers
GPT-5.6 Sol 15 Premium answers with long context — best for high-value interactions
GPT-5.5 15 The most capable model — best for high-value interactions

Not sure which model to pick? Start with the standard AI, GPT-5.4 Nano, or the other 1-credit model, GPT-5.6 Luna. They handle most support and FAQ use cases well. You can always switch to a premium model later if you need more capable answers.

Your Credit Allowance

Plan Message Credits
Free Full Access 100, one time (never reset)
Essential 2,000 / month
Business 6,000 / month
Enterprise Custom

On paid plans, credits reset at the start of each billing month — on yearly plans too. Unused credits don't roll over. On the Free Full Access plan, the 100 credits are a one-time allowance.

If you're on an older plan (such as Basic), your credit allowance stays the same as before.

If you have add-ons, those extra credits are added to your monthly allowance.

What Happens When Credits Run Low

At 80% used — We send you an email to let you know your credits are running low. This gives you time to switch to a lower-cost model or get more credits.

At 100% used — Your chatbot stops replying. Buy extra credits or upgrade to start again at once.

Running out of credits? On Free Full Access, buy a one-time top-up. On Essential or Business, get an add-on. Or upgrade your plan for a larger monthly allowance. You can also switch to a lower-cost model to make your credits last longer.

How to Choose Your AI Model

  1. Open your chatbot in the dashboard.
  2. In the left sidebar, go to Settings.
  3. On the General tab, find the AI Model section.
  4. Pick the model you want from the list. Each option shows its credit cost.
  5. Click Save changes.

Your bot will start using the new model for all future replies. Existing conversations are not affected.

Tips

  • Use a 1-credit model for most bots. GPT-5.4 Nano and GPT-5.6 Luna are fast, capable, and make your credits go the furthest.
  • Reserve premium models for high-value bots. If you have a sales or product-expert bot where answer quality directly drives revenue, a higher-cost model can be worth it.
  • Check your usage regularly. Go to Settings → Plans & Billing to see your remaining credits and adjust if needed.
